The anti-ageing medicine

by Irvine Syazyombo

People want to live youthfully and energetically forever. If there was a place  overseas where humans could fly to buy back their youth, they would  frequent  it excitedly. I wonder how long the queues would be! Ageing would be no more!

However, ageing can be managed. It should not be miserable time at the mouth of the grave. There is medicine at least to delay it.

That medicine is taken through wise and enlightened food choices. Every day, people choose whether to delay their ageing with healthy meals or precipitate it by embracing poor diet and nutrition.

“What you eat makes a huge difference in how you age and how you feel,” online health publication, WebMD quotes dietitian Manuel Villarcorta.

The Polish Academy of Sciences site also says ageing is influenced by lifestyle, including diet and nutrition.

“The best diet to delay age related disease onset is one low in calories and saturated fat and high in whole cereals, legumes, fruits and vegetables…such a diet should become a key component of healthy ageing delaying age related diseases and perhaps the ageing process itself,” says the US National Library of Medicine site.

What you eat matters and affects your ageing process. It is either you are poisoning your body and making it age faster , or treating it with the right kind of food.

You poison your body by eating too much salt which could damage your kidneys, eyes and brain through high blood pressure.

Avoid fatty meat and milk as the fat could cause you cardiovascular disease. Lower your sugar consumption because it can lead to diabetes and heart disease.

As you avoid dangers that would not only precipitate ageing but also cause premature  death, bring in a healthy diet, the medicine that is needed to delay ageing.

Carrots, garlic, broccoli, bright coloured fruits like tomatoes , and  strawberries ,blueberries, black currants, black berries and leafy greens help protect cells against destruction by harmful molecules called free radicals.

These foods contain molecules that protect your body cells against functional deterioration, premature ageing and cancerous mutation.

Such chemicals are vitamin E, C, beta carotene and many more.

“Antioxidants like vitamin C can even help keep your skin younger -looking. One study linked eating lots of yellow and green vegetables to fewer wrinkles,” says the WebMD journal.

Whole grains are also essential. They are not only rich in fibre but also reduce chances of type 2 diabetes and keep blood vessels in tip top form.

Fish also have anti ageing protection. They have Omega-3 fatty acids that help protect the heart and reduce chances of developing stroke.

Ageing has medicine. However, you do not need to go to hospital to be treated. The doses are taken right in the comfort of your own home. That happens whenever you eat healthy food.
